Tomoko Ogura, the women’s fashion director for Barneys New York, answers style questions in this week’s nytimes.com. Ogura’s expert answers? Scarves and stripes. Two items I can’t live without and sounds like I’m not the only fan.
The Q & A:
What’s your best-selling item right now? “A.L.C. dresses, in particular the navy and white striped jersey T-shirt dress (shown below, $295). Andrea Lieberman has nailed the stylish yet comfortable dress. She uses beautiful Japanese and Italian fabrics that are luscious to the touch.”
What’s the one thing that sells, season after season? “We blew through a T (shown below, $118) by Alexander Wang long-sleeve navy and white stripe T-shirt this spring.”
And, “everyone loved our Lemlem striped tunics ($225, shown below) that are made from natural cotton and hand-woven by traditional weavers in Ethiopia. It is a misconception stripes only work on certain body types.”
What’s the one staple of your wardrobe that you always come back to? “Scarves are both functional and a great accessory that can add dimension and texture to your look. Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka are true artists, and for fall my favorite is a Snakes & Ladders silk scarf (shown below, $410) inspired by the Chutes & Ladders board game.”
