It’s very possible that I’ve been living in a vacuum or under a rock, or something along those lines, but I’ve been observing and participating in this wonderful movement of women willingly, enthusiastically, and joyfully being of service to other women.
Remember that movie Working Girl starring Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver from 1988? Katharine Parker, Tess McGill, and other women in the movie were depicted as territorial and competitive. And maybe that’s how we women rolled in the 80s — I was just graduating college and about to get married and have babies so I...

Cutesy post title courtesy of virtualchocolate.com — a website dedicated to chocolate wisdom. Who knew there was such a thing?
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, I’ve pulled together five tasty and 100% guilt-free options for organic, fairly-traded chocolate to give your sweetie this Sunday. If you don’t have a sweetie, be your own best friend and get yourself one of these antioxidant-packed treats. Self love is the new black! And just in case you missed my blog post on kissing a few months back, I’ve included the key points for you — the just of it is kissing is good...

Forget January 1st. It’s come and gone anyway so let it go and see every day as a chance for new year.
As you experience them, embrace those “low” points where action is needed to live an improved life – the life you desire. No negotiating, no stalling, and no taking better care of yourself in the future.
The reason many people make New Year’s resolutions:
New Year’s resolutions are a tool for negotiating with ourselves; we want to allow ourselves to have fun, be carefree and enjoy the holidays (or the entire year!) by overindulging in spending,...

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Come back tomorrow for a souper idea for turkey leftovers!
Enjoy and give thanks for your many blessings!

I know it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow and not Valentine’s Day, but you may want to add ‘having someone to kiss’ as another thing you’re thankful for because kissing can improve your health!
I stumbled across a darling website dedicated solely to the act of kissing, called Best Kisses, Your Life in a Kiss. Ray and Terri from Best Kisses recommend “kissing 10 seconds or longer everyday. Repeat as often as required to reduce stress and live a healthier life.”
Who doesn’t have 10 or 20 seconds a day to become...

I can’t help you with family dynamics — trust me, our family has plenty of issues, but making sure we don’t compromise our healthy eating efforts isn’t one of them. Most members of my family don’t wake up on black Friday full of regret for anything we consumed — there a few things that probably shouldn’t have been said, usually by me or my Dad (he never had a filter and I lost mine when I turned 40), but we set ourselves up for success when it comes to the meal.
Here’s how we do it:
Step 1: Time the meal right. I...

I had the (almost missed!) opportunity to be involved with creating a short film produced for the Oregon Food Bank to raise awareness and funding to end hunger. Creative Director/Director David S. Mayne sought out stories of those who on first glance would not seem to be in need. Their revealing stories highlight how easy it can be to find oneself in need of food and how the Oregon Food Bank has helped them when they needed it most. Each of them has taken that gift of love in the form of food and found a way to donate their time and energy in order to give back to their community.
Everyone involved in...

Blogs like mine that have to do with health, diet, exercise and doing everything in your power to avoid things like high fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated oil are probably not the most popular on a treat-filled day like today so…I will just say Happy Halloween and whatever damage you do today (if you must indulge), don’t do it for another 364 days! Maybe one of these days our candy won’t contain those nasty, toxic ingredients and our chocolate bars will actually have cocoa in them! BE...
